WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID

Dear Anthony

Thank you for your letter and for submitting THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE GOLF YIPS & MORE which I have now had the opportunity of reading and evaluating and will detail my thoughts and publishing proposals.

The very first impression I gained from THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE GOLF YIPS & MORE is that it is a very well-written and highly competently constructed book. The style is confident, descriptive and direct, primed with a great sense of character that allows you to bring your experience to life. It's that latter feature which is immediately first apparent, as you have a truly distinct authorial voice, something which is absolutely imperative for a book like this to resonate with a wide audience.

The opening section of any book must do several things and the opening of your book fulfils all of the requirements perfectly. It really is superb, starting by explaining who you are as an author and your mission statement, which is delivered in a very personable and charismatic way, you actually use the introduction to really connect with the reader emotionally, immediately establishing your unique perspective, why you have written the book and the kind of background you have come from.

You are obviously very passionate about the material, and more than that your knowledge is evident throughout every part of the prose. Each chapter covers a particular topic, ensuring that each new page is tackling something new so the reader always feels engaged and thinking about the book as a whole. Another feature is that it achieves all of the above with wonderful clarity. This is, in part, due to the truly superb quotations and illustrations which enhance and enrich the text wonderfully well and dovetail perfectly. They act as highly appropriate visual reference points.

In summary, therefore, THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE GOLF YIPS & MORE is as good a book of its type as I have read for some time and far better than the majority of hopefuls one encounters. It will be particularly strong in the Kindle marketplace simply because it excels in the niche bracket it falls into. It seems to possess everything required to be successful and one cannot praise it more highly than that.

Dear Mr Higgins

Thank you for your thoughtful article detailing your struggles with putting and your frank and honest assessments of how you have dealt with them. Through my teenage years I was an excellent putter – I used to wonder what side of the hole the ball would drop into – but while playing in college, I got the yips and I’ve had them on and off ever since. So many of your statements resonated with me, but a few stand out, including how embarrassed I am when I yip and how much better it feels even to miss a putt when you don’t yip. A yipped putt is discouraging but a missed putt with a solid stroke is an opportunity for growth and improvement. I recently started putting left-handed, and so far, no yips. I’m sure I will be using your line about why I putt left-handed the next time I’m asked. : )

Thank you again for the thought you put into writing your article. It will help me enjoy playing golf more and I have bookmarked it for future reference.

Best wishes always

Hello Mr Higgins

I just read your article on the yips and wanted to say thanks. I have struggled with the chipping yips for almost 10 years now, to the point that I quit the game outright for a year and a half.

I have read countless books/chapters, articles, and watched many videos, with no success. But I found that some of the information in your article really resonated with me, and I am eager to put some of it into action.

I am long past hoping to find a "cure" and am more just looking for any sort of improvement that would make that part of the game more enjoyable. It was once the strongest part of my game, and I loved the imagination I could use for different shots around the green.

Anyway, I am sure that you get an awful lot of messages like this one, so I will not bore you with my stories. But just know that your article was helpful and appreciated.

Anthony

Just a quick email to say thank you for writing the article on your website about the yips. Funnily enough, I've just come back from Vale do Lobo where I was yipping very badly having been fine for over a year back home.

I've been thinking about putting with the claw or left-handed for a while so I'm going to give it a go.

Thanks, P M

Hi Anthony

I read your article and found it mirrors my experience of having the yips and coaching golfers away from yipping.

Your article makes for interesting reading Anthony.

Thanks for sharing it with me.

********************

After returning home for the winter one year after working a long season at my last position in Austria I decided to write a few notes during the dark evenings on what I have discovered, learnt and observed over the years about the dreaded yips, an affliction that can affect golfers of all ages and standards.

I started writing these notes because I became frustrated reading and hearing so much useless unproductive information about the yips from people who have never experienced the problem and it is my opinion that until you have experienced it you will never be qualified to talk or give advice about it.  I thought it would be helpful for people to read a true honest account of the experiences and thoughts from somebody who has battled with the yips with all parts of the short game and helped people overcome them for over 40 years.

At the time I never thought these few notes would develop into a book of this length and that it will probably never be finished as it is updated on a regular basis when something new is discovered or something is rewritten in a different way.

Since starting to write these notes what has surprised me are the emails I have received from people thanking me for writing this in such an honest and frank manner and saying how they can relate to what I have written.  But what has surprised me more are people and friends who I have known for many years, but not played golf with, including tour players, who have come forward to tell me of their putting or chipping problems after knowing the interest I have taken in this subject and what I have written.

This goes to show that there are a lot of people in this world who suffer in some way or another with the golf yips who are too nervous or embarrassed to talk about it or disclose that they are a fellow sufferer.

Its content includes illustrations and pictures, humour, stories, quotes, causes, cures and it is instructional and informative.  It also tells of one man’s obsessive battle and research to overcome this problem and it has been described as honest, easy to relate to and the most comprehensive and informative book ever written on the subject.

Anybody reading this book will learn everything they need to know about the golf yips, the correct mentality to playing golf and a lot more including “The Secrets of Playing Golf” and “How to Generate Power in the Golf Swing”.  Even if you are not a yips sufferer everybody will discover tips in this book that will help their golf.  I hope everybody who reads it enjoys it, finds it helpful, inspiring and that it gives you all hope that it is possible to defeat the yips and enjoy your golf once again.
